That's not paranoia, and it's not really about this relationship. It's an old alarm system, calibrated once by an actual loss or inconsistency, still running on a threat that isn't currently there.
It shows up as reading too much into a slow reply, needing reassurance that logic can't actually satisfy, or testing people without meaning to, just to see if they'll stay.
The alarm won't turn off because someone finally proves themselves enough. It turns down when you find where it was first calibrated, and update it on purpose.
